At Stone Circle Hills, we keep a diverse, hardy flock of chickens—just the way we like it. You'll find a mix of Bantams, Americanas, and ISA Browns, each contributing in their own way to our homestead rhythm.

We don't free-range our birds—Middle Tennessee predators like coyotes, foxes, hawks, and eagles make that too risky. Our farm dogs keep a sharp eye to the sky, but even they can’t be fully trusted with hens.

Instead, we’ve built a thoughtful setup:

  • 8x8 stationary coop with deep bedding (changed more often in summer)

  • Two runs: an 8x12 and an 8x8, one on each side of the coop

  • Movable tunnel to let the birds graze fresh greens grown just for them

  • Grass clippings dumped in the run all mowing season—bugs and joy galore

We plant two over-crop plots just for the chickens, and they enjoy a steady stream of garden scraps year-round.

We keep it clean and natural:

  • Organic layer pellets

  • Organic scratch grains

  • Mealworms (treat of the week)

  • Raw apple cider vinegar and cayenne flakes for parasite control
    No antibiotics. No medicated feed.

We’re not chasing profit with eggs—we’re aiming to break even on feed and share a few dozen with friends, neighbors, and locals who want honest food.
